Grown on the steep green slopes above the Black Sea.
Giresun, on Türkiye's eastern Black Sea coast, has traded hazelnuts with the world for centuries. Its round Tombul variety is valued by chocolate makers for its aroma and rich oil content.
Türkiye and the world's hazelnuts
Türkiye is by far the largest hazelnut producer and exporter. Most of the hazelnuts in Europe's chocolate, spreads and pastries start their journey on the Black Sea coast.

Picked by hand, dried in the sun.
In August and September, farmers pick hazelnuts by hand, often on slopes too steep for machines. The nuts are spread in thin layers on the harman, an open drying yard, and turned for several days in the sun until they are dry.
Drying is the step that protects flavour and keeps the kernel safe from mould. That is why we chose the name: quality is decided on the harman, long before a nut reaches a factory.
